It is my perception that the first step in resolving conflict in the outer world is to resolve the conflict within oneself. (The War between the "God-Self" and the "animal-self.") Therefore, as I see it, the central emphasis in any REAL transformational process must concern itself with the RAISING OF CONSCIOUSNESS!!!
The earliest memory I can recall is of a seemingly unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the invisible Causal world - a world I imagined that I knew about even before birth. Consequently, this was the information that I hoped to learn more about in school - if not in elementary school or even "high" school, but certainly in college and most certainly in post graduate study.
But no, not even after 13 long and tedious years in college and post graduate study - not even after changing my major 8 times and studying in 8 different well-known universities in 5 different countries, all without satisfaction. I was left with no other course but to search out this information in various out-of-the-way, so called "metaphysical" bookstores.
The first book that kindled my interest was "Light on the Path" by a mysterious author known only as "M.C." who I much later learned was Mabel Collins, one of the associates of Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, founder ofThe Theosophical Society. In it I read and pondered these enigmatic phrases:
I was 12 years old and on the path to spiritual knowledge! Thirty years and 4.000 carefully selected books later, when I was 42 years old, I decided to see if any of my other brothers and sisters on Planet Earth would be interested in this information.
I opened what was to be later called The Tree of Life Bookstore, on the corner of 125th Street & Lenox Avenue in Harlem. From an initial 2 students, within 10 years we had a monthly patronage of more than 15,000 men, women and children of all races from all over the world.
There was something very special happening to these people. It was as if a hidden hunger in their souls was being fed and nothing could stop them from seeking to feed it once the barriers to its existence were removed. Day by day, people would come back to ask for more of the keys to unlocking the mysteries of their own Divine nature. Thwarted in all the basic human drives by a society in which he or she is a virtual stranger, an African-American is driven deeper into him or herself more quickly than his white counterpart in this culture.
I found that an increased sensitivity existed among this community, which once opened by the secrets of diet, fasting, meditation and yoga, led to rapid and deep spiritual unfoldment.
Perhaps Allan Kardec in his "Spirits' Book, written in 1857 provides the key:
"Diversities of Climate (experienced over an extended period of time) give rise to diversities of habits and of needs that constitute diverse nationalities and races, each of which will always need laws appropriate to its special habits and needs.
"When the Eternal Laws shall be everywhere the basis of Human Law, the Law of Love will be practised between Nation and Nation as between Man and Man, and all will then live in Peace and Happiness, because no one will attempt to wrong his neighbor or to live at his neighbor's expense."
I now make this information available to the people of Atlanta, Georgia in the hope that it will stimulate those seekers of Wisdom here to remember this knowledge that they already know, but do not know that they know.
I suspect that it will be a useful alternative to watching TV, shooting up dope, and participating in mindless violence and the consequences it brings. This is the effect this information has had in Harlem and in the prisons of America.
